Health IT interoperability is not only essential for providers and patients, but now it’s also mandatory.

Compliance with the new federal rules to improve health data interoperability and prevent data blocking went into effect on April 5, 2021. You may have already read about some of the entities being fined for noncompliance, and we expect that such financial penalties will continue to mount.

Long before it became a mandate, we have been advocates — and providers — of interoperability. We don’t, however, want our customers to simply be complying. We want their interoperability to be optimized. That’s why we keep developing solutions that maximize efficiencies and provide enhancements for preexisting solutions and products.

New solutions include Life Image Network Connector (LINC), Network Search and Retrieve, and Patient Connect Portal (PCP). LINC was created to enable community hospitals, physician groups, imaging centers, and healthcare innovators to experience the interoperability that we provide to larger academic medical centers and specialty hospitals. The Network Search and Retrieve functionality enables a customer to seamlessly search for and retrieve an exam (with appropriate levels of authorization) from an outside facility’s PACS. Meanwhile, PCP puts the patient in the driver’s seat by enabling them to securely collect, store, and share their images and other medical data online. It also helps care teams manage chronic and complex conditions and meet their federal interoperability requirements.

New June/July enhancements include LILA 5.8.2 and Cloud 4.17. These collective updates are aimed at improving usability and accommodating additional workflows.

PACS to PACS Exam Transfer

Our newest product enhancements and releases include Network Search and Retrieve, the newest version of LILA, Patient Connect Portal, and Life Image Network Connector.

Network Search and Retrieve: Retrieve Exams From an Outside Facility

You can search for and retrieve exams from an outside facility’s PACS by using Life Image’s Network Search and Retrieve feature. No WAN/LAN or VPN connection is needed to use this functionality. The feature offers several significant benefits, including:

  • Manual processes for requesting studies or searching for studies to be released are no longer needed.
  • Sending sites no longer need to find and send exams, thereby significantly cutting down on delays.
  • Users can initiate multiple patient searches at one time.
  • Users can be set up to retrieve from, search, and query multiple PACS and multiple facilities.

Newest Version of LILA Available

Our latest version of LILA is now live! LILA 5.8.2 contains 51 improvements and new features – all aimed at improving usability and accommodating additional workflows. Contact your Client Relationship Manager for more information.

Patient Connect Portal

Do you need a solution for bidirectional image sharing with patients? Do you need to meet your ONC and HIPAA requirements for data sharing and to avoid data blocking penalties?

Patient Connect Portal (PCP) puts the patient in the driver’s seat, giving them the ability to securely and digitally collect, store, and share diagnostic images and other medical data. Patients can collect their outside records and share them directly with you inside your Life Image application. Likewise, clinical support teams can share in-house images directly with patients, eliminating the need for CDs. This solution is live and currently in use by multiple health systems across the country.

Life Image Network Connector

Life Image Network Connector (LINC) was developed in response to demand from smaller healthcare organizations and select non-healthcare organizations, such as attorneys, insurance companies, payment review entities, and others with proper consent, to digitally access specific medical data and reduce the administrative burden or record retrieval for Life Image’s market-leading network of providers. End of Life and End of Support

Grand Rounds Life Image partnership

With any technology solution, it’s important to be on a current and supported version. At Life Image, each major release of software introduces new features and fixes and often includes performance, stability, and security enhancements. Using outdated versions can leave you open to vulnerabilities or lead to workflow inefficiencies experienced by your staff. Life Image can best support our customers when they are using the most current versions of our applications.

For your reference, the following versions are current:

  • LILA 5.8.2
  • LITE: 2.4.1
  • Cloud Universal Inbox 4.17

Please be aware of the following product versions that are reaching their end of life and one product that will no longer be supported.

Customers still using the legacy Clinical Connector solution for patient data sharing are urged to migrate over to Patient Connect Portal as soon as possible. Former Clinical Connector users have reported a superior experience for both patients and staff when using Patient Connect. Clinical Connector began sunsetting in 2020, and we will no longer support this product by the end of 2021.

LILA versions 5.5 and below and LITE 2.0.3 and below have reached their end of life. Customers on these legacy versions are encouraged to plan to upgrade in the coming months. Contact support@lifeimage.com to coordinate your upgrade to the latest version.

EHR INTEGRATIONS

Enhance Productivity: Integrate Life Image With Your EHR

EHR integrations

Don’t forget that we have integrated EHR solutions to help you streamline your imaging workflows. These include Epic Hyperspace to LILA and Cerner PowerChart to LILA.

Both solutions allow users to receive and view outside exams and link those exams to the patient’s record, all from within Epic or Cerner. These integrations are live and in use now by Life Image customers across the country. Ask your customer relationship manager for more information.

Coming Soon! 

Two additional EHR integration enhancements – Order Entry Automation and Patient Portal solutions – will be available to our customers via the next version of LILA.

With Order Entry Automation, you will be able to automatically generate an order in Epic or Cerner for outside studies received via Life Image, auto-nominate the order, and push it to your dictation system and/or PACS. This feature reduces manual data entry significantly and includes improved patient lookup and patient matching functionality with the EHR.

The Patient Connect solutions at Life Image are being enhanced to integrate with Epic MyChart and the Cerner HealtheLife Consumer Framework. Life Image customers will be able to digitally share exams with and receive exams from patients inside Epic MyChart or the Cerner HealtheLife portal by using LILA. Life Image’s Patient Connect solutions, designed to empower patients by giving them control over their own imaging exams, will present inside the EHR Portal for the patient. There are no additional logins for the patient to manage and no additional websites to find. If your facility receives a high volume of CDs from patients or continues to burn high volumes of CDs for your patients, we encourage you to speak with your Life Image customer relationship manager about this soon-to-be-released integration.
