The real-world experience battling COVID-19 has taught all of us in health care that interoperability is more important than ever. Demand for digital solutions to share medical images and clinical data has skyrocketed. With vaccine deployment promising a more manageable pandemic environment for health care practitioners, there is now a refocusing of efforts back to federal rules accelerating interoperability and patient access to health data.

To meet the growing need for efficient data exchange solutions, Life Image recently launched new solutions to help our customers and referral sites improve interoperability with each other and with patients.

LIVE logoLife Image Veterans Exchange (LIVE) an application approved by the Department of Defense (DOD) to connect Veteran Health Administration (VHA) sites with community care network (CCN) providers. We began our work at the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) South Central region #16, using LIVE to enable bi-directional exchange of imaging and other clinical data between the VA and CCN providers in AR, LA, MS, and TX to support veterans seeking care under the MISSION Act. LIVE closes the information gap between the VA and community facilities to save costs and improve care coordination for our veterans. Read more in our official announcement.

Life Image Network Connector (LINC) was created and launched so that smaller community hospitals, physician groups, imaging centers, and healthcare innovators can experience the same ease in effectively exchanging medical images and data that we provide to larger academic medical centers and specialty hospitals.

Patient Connect Portal (PCP) puts the patient in the driver’s seat with the ability to collect, store and share both diagnostic images and other medical data — securely and online. PCP helps care teams manage chronic and complex conditions.

In addition, we’ve been busy developing new enhancements to our Interoperability Suite to help make it faster, more stable, and easier to use and with advanced integrations into top-tier EHRs and other hospital systems.

ONC rules for interoperability

Federal rules will accelerate electronic access, exchange, and use of health information and promote patient control of their health data.

Mandatory compliance: April 5, 2021

The rules grant patients ownership of their health data “without special effort” and at no additional cost.

However, current systems aren’t prepared. According to a recent Life Image survey, 42% of healthcare facilities say they aren’t ready for the new rule requirements. In addition, 66% of respondents still rely on paper records and over 34% on CDs as primary formats to share records with patients.

Epic and Cerner EHR Integration Enhancements

EHR integrations

Integrated EHR solutions help you streamline access to and the movement of diagnostic images.

Patient Portal Single Sign-On Capability
Integrate and launch the full Life Image Patient Connect experience within Epic MyChart or Cerner HealtheLife. Eliminate CDs and provide one convenient location for patients to own, request, store, and share their diagnostic images and other health records across care teams without leaving the context of the EHR patient portal. Outside studies uploaded and shared by patients through the portal can be accessed by clinical teams within the EHR.

Order Entry Automation
Improve operational efficiency with automated order entry and reduce dependence on manual processes. This enhancement assists radiology departments with ingestion of outside studies, generating an order, then auto-nominating and pushing into your PACS once received in the Life Image application; eliminating a significant amount of manual work and time.

If you are on LILA 5.7 or use Life Image Universal Inbox and offer our Patient Connect Portal or Mammosphere PHR solution for your patients, you can proactively share data digitally with patients using your Life Image application. Quickly search for a patient, select their records, and send to the patient’s PHR account electronically. With the Send to Patient feature, you can also invite patients to register for Patient Connect Portal.
