Traveling the Last Mile of the Long, Bumpy Road to Interoperability
Deep Dive: Although compliance deadlines for interoperability rules have been delayed, recent days highlight the pressing need for greater access to health data.
“Interoperability is actually essential. It’s not a nice to have, it’s an absolute must-have…We are now seeing recognition that this is really important both for infection control but also speed of diagnosis and treatment. As patients are released from the hospital and moving from treatment to post-acute care, some of those patients now require continued imaging. This imaging for follow-up care, monitoring and on-going treatment must be accessible, whether it is exchanged, transferred, or viewed outside the facility. This is a really important part of interoperability.”
