Meet the New Life Image: Key Takeaways from our Relaunch

Life Image celebrated our 10-year anniversary this year. When we formed in 2008, we essentially created the image exchange category. Today, the Life Image network connects more than 1,500 facilities in the United States and 8,000 affiliated sites, including seven of the top 10 U.S. hospitals, with 150,000 U.S. providers and 58,000 clinics globally. As Life Image looks ahead to the next 10 years, we are in the midst of another turning point in healthcare. The efforts towards digitizing healthcare are now reaching a maturity that allows true transformation from data to information to insights.

Up until now, the barriers around images have been too difficult to surmount

Historically, the industry has not been able to effectively integrate imaging data with other healthcare data, such as electronic health records (EHRs) and claims data despite the clinical value of images. Virtually every impactful medical procedure requires diagnostic imaging to make a diagnosis, identify acuity, and measure change over time. Technical and administrative barriers have held interoperability back, in addition to the business incentives to keep imaging data trapped in silos. That is why, despite the recognized need, an entire research industry has been built without comprehensive access to image data.

Incorporating images at scale opens new capabilities in RWE, population health, and value-based care

Life Image has spent the past 10 years solving the toughest interoperability challenges in healthcare. We now orchestrate the real-time flow of any and all clinical information, including medical images, across a patient’s journey, and across delivery settings around the world. We have reached a point of technology maturity where interoperability is finally possible. The ability to incorporate imaging data to accelerate machine learning, provide real-world evidence (RWE) for drug development, or measure the real-world efficacy of a therapy, and better provide clinical decision support for doctors opens new horizons of capabilities in research, population health, and value-based care.

This advancement in capabilities is why Life Image reached another important milestone this year. Earlier this month, we officially re-launched to reflect our transformation from image exchange to providing broader value in healthcare. We unveiled a new unified Interoperability Suite of solutions, expanded capabilities, a broader market focus, a new look and feel, and an updated website.

The awareness of this availability of clinical imaging has not yet fully penetrated the community of researchers and data scientists who manage clinical evidence. With our relaunch, we are bringing these new offerings to life sciences, payers, precision medicine, and AI organizations, while continuing to facilitate innovation and collaboration with the provider market.

Key capabilities from our recent relaunch include:

  • New, unified Interoperability Suite: Brings all of Life Image’s applications together under one vendor-neutral platform that supports interoperability through standards-based connectivity to a wide range of data assets (including claims, EHR, and imaging data), using HL7, FHIR, XDS, and DICOM. With this suite, healthcare organizations can have increased flexibility for utilizing Life Image’s extensive global network in a variety of use cases.
  • Expanded capabilities: Allows users to better manage a range of medical data and solutions, meeting the unique needs of all constituents in the healthcare ecosystem. Healthcare professionals can turn data into insights, enabling them to make more informed clinical decisions, improve the patient experience, and, ultimately make new discoveries that will improve outcomes.
  • Broader market focus: Builds on more than a decade of experience working with health systems and AMCs to expand Life Image’s focus to include life science companies, payers, RWE, and AI vendors. We are applying our deep technical expertise in managing imaging data to enrich other data types in order to support research and development for life science entities; population health and member engagement initiatives for payer organizations with our Mammosphere solution; and more.
  • New website: Showcases all of Life Image’s capabilities and solutions for providers, payers, life sciences, data aggregators, and AI innovators. The new site features easy-to-read graphics that explain how our solutions work with each other, and work for our customers and partners. Slideshows explain how Life Image’s solutions address and solve challenges for healthcare professionals across the ecosystem.

Looking to explore the new Interoperability Suite in person? Life Image will be at the 2018 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting, from November 25-30 in Chicago, Illinois.
