lifeIMAGE Connects Physicians and Patients to Microsoft HealthVault
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHICAGO, IL - November 29, 2010 - Further demonstrating its commitment to more efficient exchange of medical image data, lifeIMAGE (www.lifeimage.com) announced today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) that it has integrated its on-demand image exchange network with Microsoft HealthVault (www.healthvault.com) – a platform designed to support personal health applications and services. This integration will make it possible for physicians to share imaging information with their patients, and provides an intuitive image visualization interface to review exams shared with HealthVault accounts.
With a patient’s permission, physicians using lifeIMAGE services will have the option to share medical image exams and associated reports directly with a HealthVault account. When an exam is shared, patients will be prompted to complete the transfer by logging into their HealthVault account to claim the exam or creating a new account, and then claiming the exam. lifeIMAGE’s HIPAA-compliant platform employs a series of security checks to ensure the privacy and security of all data.
“The HealthVault platform is designed for ease of integration with third-party applications that bring value to the health consumer. lifeIMAGE’s image sharing application helps HealthVault account holders stay in control of their care and have an easier time obtaining second opinions from other physicians anywhere,” said Hamid Tabatabaie, president and CEO of lifeIMAGE.
“Diagnostic images are an important part of a patient’s overall health record,” said Khan M. Siddiqui, MD, principal program manager of medical imaging in Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group. “The inclusion of imaging information in a patient’s HealthVault account provides a more comprehensive view of an individual’s health history, which can help patients avoid redundant exams and support physicians in the coordination of ongoing care.”

lifeIMAGE allows patients, physicians and hospitals to electronically network, collect and share diagnostic imaging records from any facility, reducing time and cost associated with redundant exams, avoiding excessive radiation exposure for patients using an image transport method with optimal security that is faster and more reliable than CD media. The information is stored on a secured private and HIPAA-compliant cloud using EMC storage and information management infrastructure technology.
lifeIMAGE provides an Internet service for universal e-sharing of diagnostic imaging information. The service is designed to connect hospitals, radiology groups, and physicians, to their patients everywhere. lifeIMAGE makes it possible to securely deliver or receive patient imaging information wherever needed from wherever the information originates. The goal of the lifeIMAGE platform is to help avoid duplicate exams and eliminate unnecessary patient exposure to excessive radiation. In an era of concerns about rising healthcare costs, lifeIMAGE is investing in a platform that helps advance patient care, while reducing $10-to-$15 billion of unnecessary costs. lifeIMAGE was named one of the most innovative technologies by The Wall Street Journal as part of its international 2010 Technology Innovation Awards.
