Peter Bak is a Certified Management Consultant and has over 17 years of experience in the Diagnostic Imaging market with specific emphasis on the interoperability of Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS) within the context of an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Peter was the Director of Architecture for Diagnostic Imaging at Canada Health Infoway from 2003 to 2007. In this capacity, Peter Bak:
- Contributed to the DI Program strategy within Infoway and assisted in setting the direction for going filmless within Canada.
- Defined the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) architecture for the pan-Canadian Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Contributed to the design of the pan-Canadian EHR conceptual architecture
- Provided subject matter expertise and technical leadership to Provincial DI projects across Canada: Newfoundland, New Brunswick, North West Territories, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec
- Co-authored the Infoway coordinated procurement RFP for 4 DI projects: Toronto East Network, Laval, Sherbrooke, Saskatchewan
- Negotiated national agreements with large imaging vendors on-behalf of Canada Health Infoway
He was the Chair of the Standards Working Group for Diagnostic Imaging and Teleradiology from 2004 to 2007. In this capacity, Peter Bak:
- Co-authored the IHE XDS-I Content Supplement and championed XDS/XDS-I as a pan-Canadian standard
- Co-authored and championed the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) Standards for Irreversible Compression in Digital Diagnostic Imaging within Radiology
Peter is currently the lead architect for the Hospital for Diagnostic Imaging Repository Services and the ehealth Ontario Diagnostic Imaging Common Services projects. Both of these projects are engaged in the sharing of imaging results across multiple RIS/PACS and patient identity domains using XDS/XDS-I.
He is also a technical advisor to an image sharing project in Shanghai that has deployed an XDS/XDS-I infrastructure to support real-time collaboration across multiple hospitals and community groups.
